Other Activities : 

(a) The Department could organize a workshop on “Sensitization of Principals of Secular and Theological Colleges on the Right to Information Act,2005 and Voluntary Blood Donation on the 6th August,2007.

(b) The Department of Higher Education instituted in the year 2006, the Meritorious Teachers Award (with cash incentive) for selected Govt. Colleges  Lecturers and Commendation Certificate (with cash incentive) for the selected Ministerial Staff. Altogether, Four Lecturers and five Ministerial Staff from different Govt. Colleges were selected for the Award  and Commendation Certificate for 2006.

(c ) NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council )- Under NAAC, the  Department could organize a Principals Workshop on the New Methodology of Assessment & Accreditation on the 30th Oct’2007 at Hotel Japfu , Kohima. The Workshop was well attended by both Government and Private Colleges Principals. 

(d) With a view to verify the number of students applying for Scholarship claiming to be genuine Hostellers, the Department of  Higher Education   conducted checking’s on all the hostels within Kohima and Dimapur. The  Department detected 4338 bogus Hostel Certificates attached to Scholarship forms. As a result of this drive, the department could save an amount of Rs.52.00 Lakhs. The amount is kept with the State Government.

In order to stop the misuse of Hostel Certificates, for the first time, the department has introduced the system of issuing Eligibility Certificate to both Private and Government hostels within Nagaland. Henceforth, only those students who are genuinely residing as hostellers in the recognized Hostels, possessing Eligibility Certificates will be entitled to apply for re-imbursement of Hostel fees under the Post Matric Scholarship Schemes.

(e) The Typist of Govt. Colleges are being trained to use Computers in their respective institutions during 2007-08.
