
Zunheboto Govt.College was established as
a private College on the 21st of July,1980. It was sponsored and managed by the
Sumi Hoho. Lt.Kughato Sukhai , the first and the then President of Sumi Hoho played a
pioneering role by not only coming up with the idea of setting up a College, but also in
establishing it.But initially,there was no proper fund, no infrastructure and no manpower
to run a College. As a first step towards proper planning and establishment, the first
Governing Body was constituted with Mr.Talitemjen Ao as the Chairman, the then
D.C.Zunheboto. And this Governing Body along with the College Development Committee
a sub Committee of the Sumi Hoho- under the Chairmanship of Shri Lukhevi Chishi, played a
major role in fund mobilization and formulating plans to run the College.
The College was taken over by the
Government on 01.02.1986
The College offers Honours courses in English, Economics, Political Science, History and
Geography.

Progress
of the College: With a view to bring about qualitative improvement in academic
performance, Remedial teaching was started in all disciplines to meet the special needs of
the students. The College academic performance in the University exams improved with a
pass percentage of 61% as against 29% in 2008. In enrolment also, there was a 39% increase
in student enrolment as against 29% in 2008.The
College could also activate the IGNOU Study Centre 2029 with effect from October,2009.
Physical development :
Apart
from improvements in terms of new Furnitures, Laboratory equipments and Library books, the
Girls hostel was completed and handed over.
The latest additions are two water tanks, a garage for the buses and black topping of
College approach road.
