Phek College was the brainchild of the people of Phek under the leadership of then Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Shri Lalhuma, IAS and Shri Vejoi Vero, the then Minister of State, Nagaland respectively. During the annual meeting on 28th July,1981, which was presided over by the then Deputy Commissioner, Phek Shri Lalhuma, the public, government officials and parents unanimously resolved to establish a College in Phek town , which was christined as ‘PHEK COLLEGE’.

               Phek was formally granted permission for opening by the Government of   Nagaland on 5th April,1982 vide order  No.Ed/Col-B/38 (pt-78) Dated 5th April,1982. 

The College was taken over by the Government of Nagaland on 1st February,1990. 

Science stream for the Higher Secondary level was introduced during 2005-06 . 

The College offers honours courses in Education, Political Science and History.
