Mount Tiyi College was established in 1974. It was a premier institution of higher learning in the district of Wokha. It was a great venture for the upcoming  generation to deliver higher education at the doorsteps of the Lothas. The College with its motto “Surge Et Luce” shall endeavor to serve and inspire its pupil/Students of the present generation to posterity.

The College was upgraded to Degree level in 1979 and it was taken over by the State Government   on 01.04.1987. The College has a most commanding and ideal location within the vicinity of Wokha, the district headquarters of the Lotha Tribe.

The College is essentially a co-educational institution and it offers the Degree level course in Arts. Presently, it also runs Higher Secondary Classes. 

The College offers Honours courses in English,Political Science and History.

Progress of the College:   Mt.Tiyi College has made immense progress since its inception. During 2009, internet facility  for the Lecturers could be provided and EDUSAT for the Lecturers and Students is to become functional shortly. Due to limited classrooms capacity for students, the present enrolment of the students is only 325. However, once the main building (under contruction) is completed, the Institution will be able to accommodate more students. As part of Meritorious Award programme initiated by the Department of Higher Education , in 2009.Dr.Apeni Lotha Kithan ,Vice Principal was nominated and awarded. 

 Physical development:

a. A three storied academic building funded by the Department of Higher Education is under progress.

b.One Women’s hostel funded by the Department of Higher Education and UGC is also under construction and nearing completion.
